One challenge of working on a distributed team is keeping track of everyone’s time zone. Most of my immediate team are Europe-based, and my colleagues in the Open Source Mano project are spread across the world. That makes timely collaboration complex. I often need to coordinate a task with someone several timezones away. If I miss them, I have to wait until my next day to talk to them. Not very efficient.

Often enough, you’re at the stage in your work where you’re running potentially time-consuming unit/integration tests. You have other work to do on that project, but you’re tied up waiting for the tests to finish (and hopefully pass).

I was recently asked about what Atom packages I use, and I thought it’d be good to document it. These are the most used of the 38 Community Packages I’ve installed.

Like the fantastic Borderlands series, created by Terri Windling, where neither magic nor technology work as advertised and are unpredictable when combined, so is it with Cancerland.

This work is part of my ongoing effort to identify repeatable patterns – of research and data – and build a tool to make genealogy easier. As I research my own tree, I’m documenting not only my discoveries but the process I followed in order to make important discoveries. These are being incorporated into GEDScope, which will eventually be open to everyone to use.
